The Battle of Fromelles 19/20 July 1916 was fought on the Western Front.  Australia suffered some 5,533 Killed, Wounded or Missing in just 24 hours.  250 Australians were buried in a mass grave and lay unidentified until 2009 when Lambis Englezos, an Australian School Teacher and the Friends of the 15^th Brigade Association in Melbourne went to extraordinary lengths to research and find the lost grave site.  The bodies were found as they are in the picture.

Laid to Rest signifies the placement of the bodies and is a tribute to Lambis and the discovery and excavation of the bodies.

250 Australiens ont été enterrés dans une fosse commune et non identifiés jusqu’en 2009, où Lambis Englezos, un professeur des écoles et des amis de l’association de la 15ème Brigade de Melbourne ont fait des recherches extraordinaires et ont retrouvé les corps de ces soldats.

“Laid to Rest” est une oeuvre qui montre la position des corps retrouvés ; c’est un hommage à Lambis, à sa découverte et à l’exhumation des corps.
