Inspiration is everywhere?

Hoping you all had a very Merry Christmas and wishing you every inspiration for the coming 2012.  I just discovered an interesting article on Meredith Host’s cheerful Dot Dot Dash dinnerware.

So of course I just had to share – Meredith has found inspiration from “a ubiquitous source: toilet paper (and paper towels, too, for you squeamish folks). Host has been collecting these “overlooked patterns,” as she calls them, for more than a decade; she estimates her cache contains about 75 motifs.”

So if you are looking for some inspiration in 2012 – then looking may be no further than a wisp of paper away.

Happy Happy 2012 everyone – Hope its a good one  Debby

What a wonderful week

While my hands haven’t been covered in mud this week – I have been accepted into Uni to learn some more about clay, ceramics and art.

Had a beautiful lunch with fellow Revolutionary Ceramicos members Cass and Clare and was very lucky to receive one of Cass’s puppies as a Christmas gift. Woot woot

Bluey - by Cassandra Purdon

Merry Christmas from Bluey -

My Christmas tree is up and with carols resounding in the background, lights tinkling and a tipple of the cheery stuff I had the pleasure of remembering past trips, friends and family as I put the Christmas ornaments around the tree.

This years additions were six beautiful crosses from Hillgrove House in Ireland http://homepage.eircom.net/~hillgroveporcelain/index.html – beautiful porcelain trinkets and a wonderful big red heart from Lyn Gold Coast Potters www.goldcoastpotters.com and a lovely white heart rememberance of the people of Japan that went through the earthquake earlier this year. I was in Japan when my father died and we had to return to Australia – a day later the earthquake hit Japan and my heart goes out to the poeple who are still coping with the after effects.

On a ceramic note – If you are lucky enough to be able to get to Manly -Check out

Sculpture in the Paddock at Bangalow Showground, During the Show Weekend: 19th and 20th November
8 local sculptors in participation with 8 local farmers have explored farming history to create a variety of sculptures including cows, family trees and chooks.
The show, curated by Dev Lengjel, shows the work of sculptors Daniel Clemmett, Suvira McDonald, Jim Blower, Samantha Collyer, Hayden Mathrik, Allen Horstmanshof, Mel Robin and Noel Hart.
Participating farmers are The Jarrettʼs, the Garrets, the McKenzieʼs, Jan Hulbert, Bob Guest, the Nobles and the OʼMeara family.

A new exhibition for members of Revolutionary Ceramicos

Mon-Fri, 10am-4pm

Hot off the success of their 3in1 Exhibition at Bigtime Gallery in Drake, Revolutionary members, Clare Urquhart, Cassandra Purdon and Deborah Gower are bringing an updated version of their show to a wider audience via NEXT Gallery in Lismore in November.

With an Australian theme running through all three Artists work, this new exhibition showcases their individual translations into ceramics of Reef, Range and Red Dust. Clare Urquhart, Cassandra Purdon and Deborah Gower are in the final year of their Advance Diploma of Ceramics, Lismore TAFE.

Deborah Gower’s impressive Banksias are a tribute to Queensland painter Ellis Rowan. Deborah was granted special permission to look through the archives of the Qld Museum to gain inspiration for her work which serves as a reminder to us all to do what we can to save our unique native flora and fauna.

Cassandra Purdon and Clare Urquhart both interpret recent travel experiences in their own distinctive way, both women spent time working with the World Famous Hermannsburg Potters earlier in the year, and these influences can be seen in their work.

Clare captures the essence of Australia’s outback experience through her 3D abstract wall works.

While Cass uses Dogs to tell her stories as a metaphor for the human condition and how we are trapped by conventions and stereotypes, she is increasingly concerned about the way we are continually losing our freedoms in today’s society.

‘Tres’ Exhibition runs from Nov 15 to Dec 1 2011 at NEXT Gallery, 89 Magellan St Lismore NSW
